Google Ocean

Well, I haven’t seen it announced anywhere officially yet and I don’t have any insider information, but it seems inevitable that Google Ocean will be released/revealed at AGU, so I’m going to go out on a limb and officially make that prediction. It’s been speculated about for most of the year and it’s hard to imagine a more fitting venue at which to announce it. The only question left seems to be just how soon it will be announced (and of course, what’s actually in Google’s Ocean). The final clue is Frank Taylor’s most recent blog post on the Google Earh Blog which mentions Google Ocean in the title but fails to discuss it (he’s probably under an embargo). I suppose you’d call that a leak…

Interesting philosophical question… can a speculative post such as this be considered a breach of the embargo (thus freeing others with insider information to publish it)? Probably not, but let’s see if it works.

[Update: WRONG! Keep waiting.]
